  • Description

    Origin:
Produced by Karalashvili Winery in Georgia’s renowned Kakheti region, the Mtsvane Qvevri 2019 Special Reserve is a testament to the ancient winemaking techniques of the region, combined with innovative aging practices. After initial fermentation in traditional qvevri clay vessels, this wine spent one year aging in oak barrels, followed by another year in qvevri, resulting in a beautifully complex and distinctive wine that reflects the best of Georgian craftsmanship.

    Grape Variety:
100% Mtsvane, a native Georgian white grape known for its crisp acidity, delicate floral and fruit notes, and ability to age gracefully. This particular bottling highlights Mtsvane’s versatility and depth when carefully crafted with such unique aging methods.

    Taste Profile:

    • Color: Radiant golden-yellow with amber undertones, a reflection of its unique aging process in both qvevri and oak.
    • Aroma: A bouquet of aromas unfolds with fresh citrus, green apple, and ripe pear, layered with subtle honeyed notes, a touch of vanilla, and delicate oak spices. There are hints of herbs and a faint floral fragrance that evolves as the wine breathes.
    • Taste: A harmonious balance of bright acidity and smooth texture, the wine shows rich fruit flavors—citrus, green apple, and a slight apricot note—complemented by the creamy texture and complexity brought by the oak. The second period of qvevri aging adds an intriguing minerality and earthy undertone, giving the wine remarkable depth and length. The finish is long, smooth, and slightly herbal, leaving a clean, satisfying aftertaste.

    Craftsmanship:
This special reserve wine is made with great care, following a unique aging process. The fermentation in qvevri captures the purity of the Mtsvane grape, followed by one year in oak barrels to add roundness and structure. The final year of aging back in qvevri adds a distinctive texture and subtle earthy qualities, making it a wine that is complex yet elegantly balanced.

    Serving Suggestions:
Serve at 10-12°C. Ideal for pairing with grilled fish, seafood, roasted poultry, or soft cheeses. The wine’s depth and complexity also make it an excellent choice with slightly spicy dishes, creamy sauces, or even Georgian cuisine like khachapuri or grilled meats.
